5 things in April 2017

I never thought I would enjoy making lists of things, places and experiences that caught my eye. On the other hand I shouldn’t be surprised – I love making lists! This is only my second month doing this type of post (read the first one here), but I’m really enjoying it so far. It also serves as a reminder for things that I would love to get myself or KB when I have some spare change!

Here’s what caught my eye this past month:

1. Musgrave pink gin {R400 – R500}

I always visit the guy that sells boxes of homemade turkish delight at the Muizenberg market when I’m in the area (15 pieces for R20!). If you love turkish delight as much as I do, then Musgrave pink gin will be right up your alley! It’s hand-crafted and is infused with rose water that gives it a slight turkish delight aftertaste – so more-ish! It’s a gorgeous light pink in colour, though this doesn’t translate heavily to the overall colour of the drink once you’ve added tonic water. And the packaging is To.Die.For.

As with any crafted liquor, it is a bit more than your average mass-produced label. I took the plunge and spoilt myself with a bottle recently. I only paid R400 at Pick n Pay Liquor for a 750ml bottle, but I’ve seen it advertised R400 – R500 at other retailers. It’s so delicious and I will definitely buy it again. I am also keen to visit the distillery in Salt River!

2. Eva Solo hurricane lamps {R869 – R899}

We’ve had the most beautiful evenings lately. KB and I have taken full advantage, eating outside under the stars as often as possible. One thing that we struggle with in our outdoor area is lighting. Too much light and it kills the mood, too little and you can’t see what you’re eating. I hate no being able to see what I’m eating, it’s a pet peeve. We do have some solar jars, but the light is not always sufficient. A couple of candles would be perfect, except we live in the Cape, so we always have to consider the wind. These gorgeous hurricane lamps by Eva Solo would be perfect! They are beautiful, functional and wind resistant! They don’t come cheap: R869 for the hanging lamp and R899 for the standing lamp, but they are so pretty! Get them online from Yuppiechef.

3. Big Little Lies {R159}

If you read my previous post, you would know that we recently watched the series Big Little Lies. The series is based on a book by Liane Moriarty, and seeing as how I love to read (though I don’t actually have the time for it!) I went ahead and bought the book on Loot.co.za. I prefer to read the book before watching a movie/series, but I enjoyed the series so much that I hope I’ll enjoy the book too! I’ll just add it to the never-diminishing pile next to my bed. Once I’ve actually read it, I might post a review.

4. Tina Turner – All the best {R119}

For some reason I can’t get We don’t need another hero out of my mind. It’s been an earworm for the better part of the week. Not that I mind, it’s an awesome song! It also brought to my attention that I don’t own any Tina Turner albums. The woman is a legend, I need to remedy that as soon as possible. Get it for R119 on Takealot.

5. Eco GemGem Apron {R210}

I made a flipping killer curry for supper last weekend! But I also managed to splash some tomato/curry/turmeric on the shirt I was wearing. Despite immediately whipping it off and rushing to get it under a tap and washing it, it was too late. Truth be told, I knew the minute I messed on it that it was a hopeless case, but I tried anyway. This beautiful apron from local vegan brand Eco GemGem would have taken the hit and saved my shirt had I been wearing it. Perhaps I should look into getting one, it will save me from future accidents and I’ll be supporting a local entrepreneur too! Get yours online at Faithful To Nature.
