Winter gets me down

I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather lately; run down and just ‘over it’ in general. Maybe I’m getting sick? I get bronchitis every year like clockwork; I’m one of those people that when I get sick, I do it good and proper. I don’t know, I’m just not in the mood for people lately. We had a braai with friends over the weekend, and I really should have declined and just stayed home (sorry T). I wasn’t in the mood for socializing or even being in my own company and the evening ended at home with K and me at odds with each other.

I know winter can get me a bit down (I’m a summer person), and it’s been scientifically proven that without sunshine and the benefits of being outdoors, us mere humans are susceptible to getting the mopes. Being glum in winter even has a name – it’s called “SAD” (Seasonal affective disorder). How apt is the name … Lol?! (Yes, it’s true – you can’t make this stuff up, google it!)

On the bright side we’ve made plans to go camping over the upcoming long weekend. I’m really looking forward to getting away a bit and to breathe fresh mountain air. We’re going to 22 Waterfalls outside Porterville in the Western Cape – roughly only an hour and a half drive for us. We’ve been to this campsite before, although our previous visit wasn’t all we had hoped it would be. Anyway, let’s just say I’m wiping the slate clean and hope this time will be more fun. There is an amazing hike and we enjoyed it a lot the last time – We’re looking forward to doing it with our friends and their kids!

I’m also really excited about trying s’mores for the first time. S’mores are traditionally an American/Canadian fireside treat involving fire-roasted marshmallows, chocolate and biscuits – I’ll let you know how it goes, but what’s not to like?!
