A monthly list of 5 interesting things that caught my eye seems to be a bit of a tall ask at this stage of my life. I just didn’t get around to posting a list last month (and this list is late too). I’ll have to resign myself to the fact that I can’t do everything all the time, which is hard for an over-achiever like me!) I’ll have to make do with posting a list of bits and bobs that caught my eye if and when I can!
Right, well let’s get on with it! Here are 5 things from the past month:
1. Sugar and Vice t-shirt: R335
I am a huge fan of Sugar and Vice and bought myself the sugar skull kitchen utensil holder for my birthday last year. (KB hates things cluttering the kitchen counter, but my gorgeous utensil holder is proudly displayed.) You’ll find butter dishes (that actually fit a 500g brick of butter!), coasters, mugs, plates, gift cards, totes and journals to mention just a few items you can buy at their online shop. The Sugar and Vice team have also recently launched a range of t-shirts. The range is fun and quirky and includes bridesmaid/maid of honour tees if you’re getting married and are looking for a gift for your gals. Vist their website to see the whole range and to order yours.
2. Crumbs and Cream: R38
I find that eating ice cream in cold weather is just as satisfying as eating it in warm weather, if not more so! I have been following Crumbs and Cream on Instagram for ages, but have yet to try one of their amazing looking ice cream cookie sandwiches. Started by 2 sisters together with their husbands, it’s such a cool idea. Here’s how it works:
- You pick any 2 cookies. (Think Peanut Butter, Choc Chip or Milk Tart…)
- Choose an ice cream flavour. (How about French Vanilla, Lemon Meringue or Coconut Chocolate?)
- Then choose a topping or spread. (Yumm… Sour Gummies, Cinnamon Nuts or Nutella…)
- Smash it down!
Vegan? Don’t worry, they’ve got you covered too! Visit their website to see their menu and where to find them! (FYI, you can also order in using UBER Eats, Mr D and the OrderIn app.)
3. The Cotton Company: R380
I’ve always been a lover of sarongs. When I was younger, I sold Kikoi sarongs for extra cash and still have quite a collection of my own. These beautiful 100% pure Turkish cotton towels from The Cotton Company are multi-functional, so now you have an excuse to buy one! You can use it as a towel, sarong or throw! I love the Breeze option in Royal Blue, but there are many designs and colours to choose from. Visit their website to shop for yours online! Their website states free delivery in South Africa for orders over R600!
4. Bordeaux River Cottages: R600/night
A river always gives me a feeling of tranquility or taking things a bit slower. I’m in the second trimester of my pregnancy and things don’t seem to be slowing down at all. A night away at Bordeaux River Cottages on Route 62 (Bonnievale) would be welcome! The cottages are fully equiped for 6 people and sit right on the Breede River! The rates are very reasonable at R600/night for the first 2 people and R70/head thereafter. Peak season December rates at R880/night. Visit their website for more info or to make a booking enquiry.
5. The Gin Box: R650 – R750
I saved the best for last! You may or may not know this, but I LOVE a subscription box! And I found the perfect one – it’s called The Gin Box! Though I’ll have to wait a couple of months before I subscribe seeing as I’m currently of the non-alcohol drinking variety. I’ve always wanted to be part of a club – when I was about 6 or 7 years old my bestie and her brother allowed my brother and I to join their “bicycle club” (and I use the term “club” very loosely) in exchange for sweets (I see what you and D did there TP!) Anyway, I’d love to join this monthly gin club. It’s simple, you choose a once-off gift subscription, a monthly/bi-monthly or quarterly box. According to their website, each subscription box contains a full-size bottle of gin, distiller’s notes, gourmet treats to compliment the chosen gin, tonics, cocktail ideas and whole bunch of other goodies. This is the perfect gift for a special someone who is difficult to buy for or who has everything they want/need. Or me – buy this for me…
